Selecting text in a PDF is often awkward: lines break, columns get mixed or the text cannot be selected at all. If what you need is the content —to paste it into an email, a form or another document—, the fastest way is to extract all of it at once.
Step by step
- Go to "PDF to text" on LeuPaPDF and choose the file.
- Leave "Mark where each page starts" checked if you want to find your way in the document later.
- Press "Extract text". You will see the result on screen.
- Press "Copy text" to paste it anywhere, or "Download .txt" to save it.
What if the PDF is scanned?
In a scanned document, the text is part of an image and cannot be copied. Turn on "Recognize text (OCR)" and choose the language: the tool reads the letters in the image. The first time it downloads the language data, and then everything happens on your device. Check the result: blurry photos or small print can introduce errors.
Text or Word: which one to choose
- Text (.txt): when you only care about the content, to copy it, search it or paste it elsewhere.
- Word (.docx): when you want to keep editing the document with headings, font sizes and page breaks.
- Edit PDF: when you only need to change a word or a line and want the rest to stay the same.
