Banks, insurers and many institutions send statements and certificates protected with a password, usually your ID number. It keeps others from opening them, but it is annoying if you open them often, need to merge them or upload them to a platform that rejects protected files.

Step by step

  1. Go to "Unlock PDF" on LeuPaPDF and choose the file.
  2. The tool checks what kind of protection it has. If it asks for a password to open, type it.
  3. Press "Unlock PDF" and download the unprotected copy.

Opening password or restrictions

  • Opening password: the PDF does not open without it. To remove it you need to know it.
  • Restrictions: the PDF opens, but does not allow printing, copying or editing. They can be removed without knowing the author password.

Tip: This tool does not guess passwords. Only use it with documents that are yours or that you are allowed to modify.

Is it safe to do online?

On LeuPaPDF the file and the password are processed inside your browser: they are not sent to any server. Still, keep in mind the unlocked copy is no longer protected: keep it somewhere safe and, if you are going to share it, consider protecting it again with "Protect PDF".
